Help Me, Lord by Brent M. Jones

Some words begin as reflections. Others become prayers.

Help Me, Lord came from thinking about the nights when memory refuses to be quiet, when something from the past returns carrying sorrow, regret, or fear. We cannot always change what we remember. We cannot undo what has already happened.

But we can ask for help carrying it.

Sometimes faith does not give us answers. Sometimes it gives us somewhere to place the weight.

Help Me, Lord

When memory haunts the night
and shadows press against my heart,
lift this weight of silent sorrow.
Let the darkness break apart.

When yesterday returns again
with things I cannot change,
help me leave the past behind
and trust what still remains.

In Your arms, I find my rest.
In Your mercy, find my way.
Speak Your peace into my spirit.
Carry me from night to day.

When doubts arise within my soul
and fear would steal my peace,
remind me I am not alone.
Let the restless questions cease.

I cannot know what waits ahead
or understand what came before.
But when the darkness finds me, Lord,
help me trust You a little more.

Closing Reflection

We carry more of the past than we sometimes realize. Memories can comfort us, but they can also return with regret, grief, and questions that have never been answered.

Perhaps prayer does not require us to solve those questions.

Perhaps it simply asks us to stop carrying them alone.

There are things we cannot change, losses we cannot reverse, and moments we may never fully understand. Faith does not erase them. But it can change how we carry them.

And sometimes, when the night feels longest, that is enough.

Does Wisdom Require a Fall? by Brent M. Jones

Does life require us to fall?
Is life the road to recovery,
or is recovery simply
the road we call life?

When do we learn its lessons?
Does wisdom come from stumbling,
or from what we discover
when we rise again?

If we knew what we needed,
would we still have to fall?
Does recovery give us vision,
or simply the distance
to see what we could not see before?

Perhaps balance is never permanent.
Perhaps wisdom is not knowing
how to avoid every fall,
but knowing how to rise
a little differently each time.

Maybe recovery is not
the end of something.

Maybe it is where
the next part of life begins.

The Quiet Beauty of Music - by Brent M. Jones

The notes connect,
and the mind listens.
Each sound arrives gently,
rising from the piano keys.

One note follows another,
filling the spaces between thoughts,
softening what was restless,
quieting what was loud.

The music continues,
shaping what we feel
without asking us
to understand why.

Note by note,
thought begins to loosen.
The noise within us fades.

Until there is only the music,
the space between the notes,
and for a little while,
nothing else needs to be heard.

Did Destiny Bring Choices, or Do Choices Become Destiny? by Brent M. Jones

Do people enter our lives
for a reason?

Do they arrive
to change our direction,
open doors we had not seen,
or show us a path
we might never have found alone?

Perhaps they bring a lesson,
a question,
a possibility.

Perhaps they change us
simply by being there.

We may call it destiny,
chance,
or providence.

But whatever brings someone
or something into our lives,
what happens next
still asks something of us.

A choice.

We can step through the open door
or turn away.
We can accept the lesson
or ignore it.
We can change
or remain where we are.

Perhaps destiny does not decide
who we become.

Perhaps it only brings us
to the moment
when we must decide for ourselves.

Destiny may bring the moment.
Choice determines what we do with it.
