Do we all want to live in a community where everybody knows your name? Is the desire to be famous a healthy desire? Does the desire change, or just evolve into different related goals.
Young men in the 1950's and 60's had their taste of the desire to be famous validated by the automobile they drove. The right car sent the right message of fame and the driver was of course famous because of the car.
The GTO (which stood for Gran Turismo Omologato) was a car that sent the right message. In today's world you would say it was the G.O.A.T. - Greatest Of All Time.
The message created by the right car was bigger than just the car, it was a feeling and a pronouncement. When you owned or even stepped into the car you changed. You became something you weren’t before. You sat in the seat a little more erect, and your gestures became very important. You were famous, at least in your own mind.
