Introduction
About Me and Why I Write
When I look back at my life, I’m proudest of my time helping hundreds of candidates acquire the skills they need for their desired career change while learning how to navigate the rapidly changing marketplace. My lifelong dedication to motivating and educating people struggling with their job or career has given me insight I want to share with those beyond my clientele.
My website, articles, and the books I’ve written reflect that ideal to empower people to reinvent themselves in service to their evolution and goals. I have benefitted from a storied career full of twists and turns, having first-hand seen the value of a versatile, networking-centric approach.
Early in my career, I started as an entrepreneur founding a food brokerage sales company covering fifteen western states. The company contracted hundreds of National Manufactures of Food and Food Service-related products, packaging, and industrial items through its six offices.
During this time, the company and its employees helped hundreds of entrepreneurs grow their businesses, and I often served on advisory boards with those we represented. For many years after I sold the company, I still worked with the worldwide consulting company GLG, based in New York, continuing to consult with contacts worldwide.
During all those years working with and advising suppliers, customers, and employees and overseeing prominent Human Resource Departments, I realized the importance of networking and forming genuine relationships. It was upon these realizations that I found I had reinvented myself.
Using my extensive business experience, managing, coaching, and helping others find jobs became an almost full-time focus when I volunteered at a church-sponsored employment group. At first, the work was assisting candidates in developing resumes, preparing for an interview, learning how to search for opportunities, and understanding networking.
During this coaching period, I found that the world has rapidly changed for job seekers. Now, employers and technology are necessary to find opportunities. Developing techniques with this in mind, I became a LinkedIn specialist and the go-to person for working with candidates in the US and many other countries. After helping over 800 candidates develop and place their profiles on LinkedIn, I felt like I had become an algorithm and could discern how to connect opportunities with the profile.
It is essential to share these techniques and ideas in a digestible way through the lens of achievable personal development in the following works.
