Stephen R. Covey: Leadership, Legacy, and the Power of Clear Values

One of the most impactful communicators I’ve encountered in person. His approach to leadership, values, and personal responsibility helped define a generation of personal development work. Covey’s philosophy emphasized that true leadership begins with character, and that message continues to shape how I think, write, and speak about communication.

I had the opportunity to speak alongside Covey at a church event in 1990, not long after the release of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. What I witnessed wasn’t just a great presentation—it was a masterclass in presence, purpose, and audience connection. He delivered his message without notes, moved with intention, and spoke with credibility that came not from performance, but from belief.
