Fire and Ice , by Robert Frost

Some say the world will end in fire,

Some say in ice.

From what I’ve tasted of desire

I hold with those who favor fire.

But if it had to perish twice,

I think I know enough of hate

To know that for destruction ice

Is also great

And would suffice.

Thought on This Poem

Desire burns in our hearts and to associate desire with fire is expected. Destruction is cold, heartless, brutal and it again seems expected to associate it with ice. Is it a surprise that Frost brings the world to an end to make these simple points? Maybe the intended meaning is passion is what life is.
