What you might consider iconic may not be for others. Sometimes there is a consensus and everyone agrees. For many the Eiffel Tower, the Golden Gate Bridge, a particular picture of Einstein, and things like this are Iconic. Sometimes a person becomes iconic after death. John Lennon is a good example of that.
