Inspiration is not a stand alone occurrence. Artists are links in a chain, according what Vincent van Gogh said in a letter he sent to Theo van Gogh in 1889. The point was that it is ok to look at others work. He added "whatever you find, or whatever you do not find, you can find comfort in it". You build on what you find, but you also leave something else for others to build on.
It seems clear, that the works of others are important. This site will try to present works that can stimulate ideas.
Vincent's letter was not suggesting that you could justify copying others. He was saying that what others had done was a foundation, and could help inspiration.
Sigmund Freud wrote in the book "Leonardo da Vinci and a memory of his childhood" that he felt that he understood the artist better using psychoanalytic theory. This meant that the art was like a Rorschach test revealing things in the artists subconscious. Freud used deductive reasoning on the life of Leonardo and concluded that he was freeing himself from the influences of his youth and felt that he could see that in his art.
Freud presented the question,"does the painting explain the life, or the life explain the painting”? He, of course, felt that life was revealing itself in the art.
Maybe the lesson for us is to understand that a lot of things are at work in bringing about creativity. The subconscious is linking with how it feels about things that might be connected to what it thinks it already knows. We need to feed it influences. Looking at other items helps. Music might help. Reading helps. Writing things down and keeping a notebook will help. Different forms of art might help. Help your creativity. Get outside the box.

Get away from your distractions
Associate your ideas with music. Music connects thoughts.
Keep notebooks. Record all your ideas
