Last Man Standing by David Baldacci

David Baldacci's novel, Last Man Standing, is the story of FBI agent Web London who is part of a highly specialized and elite Hostage Rescue Team.

Web falls down and freezes as his team charges down a blind alley towards a building that is supposed to be the headquarters of a drug lord. When the team reach the building automatic machine guns above them, firing armor piercing bullets, kill his entire team.

Web finally get to his feet and goes down the ally and briefly talks to a 10-year-old boy and by doing so saves his life. See what was done and how he manages to take out all the machine guns with his fire, but it is too late. He is left the center of a controversy with friends and widows blaming him for being alive. Web seeks the help of psychiatrist Claire Daniels to find why he froze and together they try to find what in his past might have the breakdown.  Web and a colleague start their own investigation of the event and it leads into the underworld of drugs and the hills of Virginia horse country.

The 10-year-old boy Web saved went missing after the battle and his drug lord father come after Web.  Claire Daniels is kidnapped and the plot twists and turns with high speed chases, hypnotism, drugs, and suspense right to the surprising end.

A well-crafted story that you won’t want to put down.
