Tuesday is March 14th is Pie Day
The reason is that the 14th is the only day in the year with the same numbers as the math's Pie "3.14"
So take a pie to work, or bring one home that day. That can be a creative approach to March 14th. I am aware of one group that is meeting in the evening for a pie day event. To celebrate the day I have listed some facts to ponder below.
Pies are in a sphere shape. To measure the surface area of a sphere you can use the math pie to help. The formula is: 4 pi r 2 . (4 times pie R squared)
Ok, you probably don't care about the math. I understand. Even so math reminds us of Einstein doesn't it? So with that in mind I will offer some Einstein trivia below.
Was Einstein good at math?
Apparently he was rumored to be poor at math, but it just wasn't true. He was good at it. I don't know if he liked Pie however? The quotes below were his.
"Pure mathematics is, in its way, the poetry of logical ideas."
"Not everything that counts can be counted. Not everything that can be counted counts."
"A man should look for what is, and not for what he thinks should be."
"So far as the theories of mathematics are about reality, they are not certain; so far as they are certain, they are not about reality."
"Once we accept our limits, we go beyond them."
"Since the mathematicians have invaded the theory of relativity, I do not understand it myself any more."
"Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former."
"A person who never made a mistake never tried anything new."
Since this blog reviews books, creativity and stories I feel like I may have fallen a little short on this post? I didn't review a book. I can recommend one however.
